Nielsen Profiles The Typical EDM Fan At EDMBiz In Las Vegas
If you’ve ever wondered what the typical EDM fan looks like, The Nielsen Company has decided to help you out. At the EDMBiz conference in Las Vegas in June, Nielsen representative Tatiana Simonian spoke about a study performed by the data giant that reveals the demographics of the typical electronic music fan.
It is not a surprise to most people that the results yielded that the average EDM fan by a wide margin is an 18-24 year old male, with at least “some college” education with a household income between $25,000 and $50,000 annually. Exact numbers are available in the infographic below, but pretty much anyone who has attended a major EDM festival in the United States could have guessed that this would be the case.
Some of the more interesting most interesting statistics from the study dealt with gender, in which they found that the ratio of male:female fans were 55:45, but that males dominated every age group except for the eldest and youngest brackets. In addition to the raw percentage, the infographic has an index that adds that measures the concentration of each group within electronic music as compared to the entire United States. For example, 7% of people surveyed are in a household that makes $150,000+, but the 206 index score means the group makes up 206% of the proportion of similar households as the country itseld, which means that it is extremely popular among $150,000+ households.
The entire infographic is worth a look below. Hopefully Nielsen will continue to study EDM so we as fans and business people can use the information to understand more about the genre and culture as a whole.
