Weekly Playlist: Back to School Edition
It’s that point in January when college students are heading back to campus and the entire world seems to become just a little grumpier than normal as the post-holiday blues set in. So in an attempt to cheer everyone up a little bit, and to inspire college students across the globe to skip the extra snooze, I’ve concocted a “back to school” playlist for this week.
This time around, I went with a little bit of trance and a whole lot of house purely because that’s what I prefer listening to in the morning as I’m attempting to make it out the door in time for class. I know some of you out there don’t mind waking up to dubstep, or even drum and bass, but personally, the last time I woke up to Krewella’s “Live For the Night” blasting at full volume, it took a solid five minutes for my heart rate to come down to a reasonable level. Of course, by then I was too awake to go back to sleep despite it being 7:30am on a Saturday and having absolutely no reason to actually be awake.
But I digress. Our back to school playlist kicks off with “U” by Gareth Emery. It’s a calm, peaceful track that won’t assault your senses and slides nicely into “Spheres” by ilan Bluestone. For those of you who have a tendency to fall back asleep after messing around on your phone for a bit in the mornings, don’t worry; the tempo picks up with Adventure Club, a W&W remix of Armin Van Burren’s “This is What it Feels Like,” and Zedd’s remix of “Alive” by Empire Of The Sun.
Also joining in on your wake-up call is the new collaboration track from Tritonal and Paris Blohm, “Colors.” If you haven’t heard of Paris Blohm, we won’t hold it against you. However, you should definitely remember his name because this guy is about to blow up big time.
As you continue on with your morning routine, you’ll also hear tracks from Hardwell, featuring the ever-popular vocals of Mathew Koma, along with the rock-solid harmonies of Krewella, and the newest track from Martin Garrix, who partnered with Jay Hardway for “Wizard.” Closing out the playlist is the Calvin Harris remix of Fatboy Slim and Riva Starr’s “Eat Sleep Rave Repeat,” which may seem like an odd choice for a morning mix, but hey, I’m making the decisions, and I’m not quite tired of the track yet.
On that note, if you have a track that really gets you going in the morning, let us know below, and we just might put it on the list next time we give you a wake-up mix.
