Keep an eye out for these trap producers in 2014.
In just under a year, Los Angeles producer Tincup has been taking over trap music charts with his numerous original productions. His tracks titled “Hundreds” and “What I Want” both hit number one on Trapmusic.net’s top 10 ranks. This is just the start for Tincup, as he just recently earned himself more than 10,000 well-deserved Soundcloud followers. 2014 is looking very promising for the young producer, and you should definitely keep Tincup in your sights.
TroyBoi, a talented producer from South East London, is set to take over the music industry by storm. He recently signed with Timbaland’s right-hand man, Jim Beanz, and things are heating up fast. Troyboi specializes in unique and versatile trap beats, and he is definitely a producer to pay attention to in 2014.
Los Angeles producer ETC!ETC! definitely made a name for himself in 2013. He put in a lot of hours of production work, which led to the release of a massive amount of original music and remixed tracks. He created a ”Trapped It” remix series and remixed Cedric Gervais’ remix to “Summertime Sadness,” which earned him well over a million listens. ETC!ETC! has the talent to turn anything into a trap hit and has proven that with remixes of songs by Kendrick Lamar, Luniz, and Zombie Nation. Having already scored a headlining show at the Avalon Hollywood in January, it is clear that ETC!ETC! is on track for a big 2014.
Parisian DJ Snake ended a huge 2013 with a number one hit on iTunes. “Turn Down For What” featuring Lil Jon has been played all over the radio waves and even went viral on the web. Although this may be his most popular track, DJ Snake has also had great success with his trap hits such as “Bird Machine” featuring Alesia and “Slow Down,” which he produced with Yellow Claw and Spanker. Keep an eye out for DJ Snake because he is definitely not turning down in 2014.
Who would have thought Elvis Crespo’s classic salsa hit, “Suavemente” would be dropped during major festivals throughout 2013? Thanks to Kennedy Jones’ trap remix, “Suavemente” gained new life and was an essential track in any trap set. It was a little over one year ago that Kennedy Jones made his debut opening for Borgore at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, California. He gained attention quickly in 2013, as he was booked for Insomniac's Escape From Wonderland and picked up a sponsorship from SOL REPUBLIC. With so many quality productions under his belt, including trap remixes to Will Sparks, Armin van Buuren, and Bingo Players, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be listening for more from Kennedy Jones in 2014.
Los Angeles DJs and producers Kenny Beats and Ryan Marks of LOUDVPCK (pronounced loud pack) have taken over the trap scene by storm. Their signature trap remixes are so unique that they absolutely crush the dance floor. Throughout 2013, they released some of the most memorable trap remixes such as their remixes of Kill The Noise’s “Jump Ya Body,” Carnage & Tony Junior’s “Michael Jordan,” and most notably, Jackal’s “Shakedown,” which went completely viral on the net. I think it’s safe to say you’ve heard at least one of their remixes if you attended a trap show this year. LOUDPVCK’s incredible signature sound undoubtedly makes them trap producers to look for in 2014.
Oscar Wylde and Vegas Banger, otherwise known as Caked Up, are able to create a trap banger out of just about anything. Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Dr. Dre are just a few of the many artists to fall victim to Caked Up’s incredible remix production. Their style is out of this world, and it’s no wonder they are listed number one on Billboard’s Uncharted list. You could say some of their fame is thanks to Oscar Wylde’s whopping one million followers on Vine, but that does not discredit the fact that their production is absolutely sick. These guys are cranking out a new track every month and are definitely looking to take over in 2014.
If you’ve been paying attention to the trap scene, then you definitely know about the TWONK movement. It was just last March when Los Angeles producer Brillz made a big statement with his debut album, TWONK. The album was filled with top quality production with tracks like, “Rvtchet B*tch,” “Callisto,” and “Fuzzy Peach,” which set the bar for the rest of the year. In early December, Brillz also released his remix album, RETWONKED, which features some of the hottest trap remixes to date. The king of TWONK is here to stay and is looking to reign over 2014.
Last year, San Diego producer Ookay exploded onto the electronic dance music scene. His masked persona and interaction with fans had everyone attracted to his ability to produce killer trap remixes. In addition to selling out his first headlining show, Ookay finished off 2013 with remixes to Steve Aoki, Major Lazer, GTA, Dirtyphonics, and many more. Having only 3 years of DJing behind him, this is still just the beginning for the talented Ookay. In 2014, he will continue to shake the dance floors and show the world what Ookay is all about.
Gent & Jawns
The duo known as Gent & Jawns have one of those most well-known trap productions created to date. “Turn Up” was a major staple in trap sets throughout 2013. It’s hard to even say the phrase, “Turn Up” without being reminded of their massive hit. During 2013, they played shows around the world on Major Lazer’s Free The Universe World Tour and threw down a guest mix on Diplo’s BBC Radio 1 show. Most recently, they released their trap banger titled “SWIZZY,” which gives them great momentum to kick off 2014.
Dani Goodman and Ian Johnson, otherwise known as the Los Angeles duo gLAdiator, are two of the most promising rising stars in electronic dance music. Their signature style of trap production is one that can’t be matched. 2013 was especially good for them, as LA Weekly named their Lightning In A Bottle set as the 14th best concert of the year in Los Angeles. These guys have some of the freshest sounding originals and recently celebrated hitting over 50k fan on Facebook with a three-track VIP pack. Get familiar with gLAdiator because you’ll be seeing a lot more of them in 2014.
Victor Niglio is a producer who broke out in 2013 by releasing some of the wildest trap remixes of the year. His remixes to Showtek & Justin Prime’s “Cannonball,” TJR’s “Ode To Oi,” and Martin Garrix’s “Animals” have festival status written all over them. Niglio has also proven himself to be more than just a remixer, as he produced the original tracks “Jiggy” featuring Mr. Man and “Booty Monsta” with Borgore. Prepare yourselves, as 2014 is going to be taken over by Victor Niglio’s party music.
