Unsung Producer Of The Week: Solidisco

Blending Old School With Modern Club Music, Solidisco Gives EDM.com Some Exclusive Updates

It seems that disco, partly due to the success of Daft Punk, has slowly been making a comeback over the last year or so. If you aren’t already familiar with Solidisco, they’re one of the groups helping bring disco back. The duo from Buffalo, New York is comprised of D-Star and Biacco. Together, they have created a unique sound inside of the disco house and nu disco genres, which can be described as a combination of old school funk and new big room sounds. Solidisco described their sound to EDM.com as “too mainstream for the underground, and too underground for the mainstream." When asked about their inspiration for their sound, they responded that they “carry some influence from modern club music, but it's in subtle ways that try to keep the authenticity of what we're trying to do as disco house artists.”

The duo already had a successful 2013, having played at HARD Day Of The Dead and providing support for acts like Diplo and Steve Aoki. Their remix of Icona Pop’s “I Love It” has been their most successful track to date, but their original production “Never Let You Go” also saw extensive play in disco house sets throughout the festival season.

Solidisco revealed exclusively to EDM.com that they have a new EP coming out on Ultra Records “very soon,” annd their new single “Top of the World” featuring the disco group Skyy, which will be out later this month. Until then, check out their monthly iTunes podcast “Hustle Radio” and be sure to listen to their remixes on their Soundcloud account. A personal favorite of mine is their take on The S.O.S Band “Take Your Time (Do It Right).”
