Austin City Limits Festival Showcases Top-Notch EDM Talent
October has blessed the city of Austin, TX again with one of the best festivals in the country, Austin City Limits. Not only does it take place on 46 acres of beautifully maintained grass at Zilker Park, the lineup is tastefully diverse in genres.
As an all-ages event, it was a heartwarming sight to see children on their parents’ shoulders jamming out to headlining acts together. The vast amount of space between the ten stages made it easy to maneuver through the crowds without feeling claustrophobic or stuck in pedestrian traffic. A cashless system made purchasing food, drinks and memorabilia a breeze. The laidback, friendly atmosphere made evident the high quality of production that was invested into this event. Overall, the aesthetics were more than conducive to a memorable time.
Despite not being an overwhelmingly EDM festival, the acts ACL chose to represent this genre surely did not disappoint. Major Lazer performed on Saturday and permeated Zilker Park with dancehall and moombahton influenced tracks that got the entire crowd rowdy. Calvin Harris closed Sunday with a set full of anthems and melodic crowd favorites that have made him such a powerhouse this year. Zedd’s Sunday set also brought the heat, but the most memorable of all the EDM acts during the weekend – hands down – was Skrillex.
Not only did Skrillex deliver an unforgettable solo show full of original productions and collaborations, he also brought Diplo on stage for a surprise Jack Ü performance. The introduction of JackÜ’s performance didn’t stop there though, as they proceeded to bring Kiesza on stage to perform “Take Ü There.” Overall, the added treat of a surprise JackÜ show was just icing on the cake for the entire festival.
Weekend 2 of ACL begins today, so get ready to be awash in quality music spawning a range of genres…and brace yourself for the mind-blowing bass.
