5 Reasons We’re Excited for 3DM Music Festival & Why You Should Be Too!
3DM Music Festival is set take place this November 1st, 2014 at Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Rhode Island. The revolutionary live performance setup aims to change the way we experience live shows, bringing an entirely new visual aspect to the stage. Incorporating a broad variety of new-age technology and a roster of acclaimed artists, this event will be an incredible experiment in light and stage technology that could redefine the way we see EDM. We've discussed a few of the many reasons that we're excited to attend 3DM festival, and we hope you are able to join us!
1. It's the first of its kind
The 3DM Music Festival will be the world’s first full 3D show experience. We’re all used to some form of visual engagement at music festivals nowadays thanks to VJ’s and video screens, but 3DM wants to take it to the next dimension; literally. 3DM Music Festival employs the power of multiple screens secured above and all around the venue, so that the intensity of the 3D light show literally envelops the room creating an environment like none other. Since it is also taking place during Halloween Weekend, 3DM festival will be giving VIP spots to 10 of the best-dressed attendees at the door! Talk about an epic first experience!
2. The festival features the world's first 3D Content Generator
3DM festival will feature visual content that pops out at you unlike anything we’ve seen before. 3DM has configured an advanced technological system that requires attendees to wear 3D glasses in order to appreciate the mind blowing graphics in real time. The enormous 2000 square foot LED screen will use stunning HD 3D Resolution to create original visual content that’s uniquely based on the festivals VJ’s performers, music dancers, and audience alike.
3. Engaging visuals: 3DM pushes VJing to new heights with improvised original content generated live from the environment.
The 3DM VJ technology uses a suite of custom-written computer algorithms to control the visual content. The Dzignlight Studios design team from 3DM stepped outside the box of standard VJ protocol for this event. The VJ team will be improvising the visuals as they feel out the crowd, dancers, music, and performers. The visuals for 3DM Festival are not pre-generated and does not use the standard video playback systems, which presents an entirely unique live 3D world that coincides with every “individual artists' NOTE and BEAT”.
3DM recently announced a special collaboration with Xbox Kinect 2.0 and the 3D content generator through their Facebook. 4 lucky audience members will be chosen to use Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect 2.0 to generate even more unique 3D content live at the event. The details are in the Facebook post below, make sure you enter to win!
4. Uniqueness: The audience will never experience the same image twice, even if they go to several shows.
The design team informed us “Every one of the millions of pixels the audience will see is being generated less than 1/60th of a second before they see it. My team and the computer systems will be live-adapting the visuals directly to the music as it comes out of our monitors”.
This is so the visual content can adapt to the mood and energy of the music playing at that moment. The movements of the dancers and performers will be live-scanned and used to drive aspects of the 3D visual system. The movements of the dancers body will be 3D scanned 30 times per second, and the systems will collect the data to allow the system to manipulate the algorithms in real-time. Dancers can control hundreds of aspects of the visuals with their bodies, such as shape, dynamics, texture, movement, and color, making every show different. As of right now there is only one date for this tour and we can only assume if all goes well we will be seeing more of this outside of Rhode Island.
5. The line up & venue
Let’s not forget what music festivals are about: the music. Since the 3DM Music Festival visual content will be based on the music and energy of the performers, we’re sure to see some high-energy visuals with the line up. 3DM’s line up includes Carnage, Datsik, Will Sparks, Brillz, and more! Performing at the Dunkin Donuts Center, the venue offers 31,000 square feet of arena space with plenty of room left over for 3DM’s 2000 square feet video wall. These DJ’s will also be playing on the same stage as entertainers such as Elvis Presley, Elton John, Cher, and Aerosmith, who have all performed to sell-out crowds. The way ticket sales are going for 3DM, it looks like it’s going to be a packed house. This will be a historic event for EDM and if you’re in the area grab some tickets while they are still available at www.3DMMusicFestival.com or www.DunkinDonutsCenter.com.
