The deep house genre made its mark in 2014, with a growing number of established producers experimenting and promoting its sounds. Artists such as Disclosure, Duke Dumont, and Oliver Heldens have made enormous waves, and while the genre remains a point of contention amongst purists vs. new fans, deep house is clearly crossing over to the mainstream. Veteran deep house and tech house DJ/producer Maya Jane Coles recently announced that her track "What They Say" was sampled by Hip-hop superstar Nicki Minaj for a a bonus song off her new album The Pinkprint. Titled "Truffle Butter," it features labelmates Drake and Lil' Wayne and adapts the original's deep groove for a hip-hop flavor.

Much like trap and dubstep before, deep house's appeal seems to be translating over to other genres of music. While it remains to be seen whether or not deep house hits it as big as those genres, a pop icon such as Minaj sampling a Maya Jane Coles track speaks to growing potential of the genre.

Earlier this year, another version of the re-sampled MJC track was released featuring Drake and Tyga, but it has since been removed from streaming platforms.
