The latest edition of The Wall Street Journal reports that SFX Entertainment will redesign Beatport, the online music store, to create a free streaming platform in the coming months. As the conglomerate overlooking such festivals as TomorrowWorld, Life in Color, and Mysteryland, SFX plans to adapt the Spotify model to the new Beatport service by using ads to support the free platform.
The entirety of Beatport's inventory will be available on the streaming service, and songs will still be available for purchase through the original music store. This new platform will cater directly to EDM listeners and offer a more diverse catalog than seen in services like Spotify and Pandora.
