Avicii Breaks Spotify Record With "Wake Me Up"
Last summer, Swedish producer Avicii released the first single from his full-length debut studio album, True. “Wake Me Up,” which started out as a fun experiment, has blasted into superstardom, hitting number one in 22 countries and accruing over 280 million plays on YouTube. Today, Spotify announced that “Wake Me Up” has reached over 200 million streams, making it the most-played Spotify song of all time. The song has bumped “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons down to the number two spot with 182 million streams.
“I’m so excited to be the first artist to reach 200 million streams on Spotify. I’ve had an amazing year, so a massive thanks to all of my fans!” Avicii tells Billboard.
Back in September, “Wake Me Up” became the fastest track to reach 100 million plays on Spotify, and now it is being played an estimated 850,000 times per day. According to Spotify, “Wake Me Up” is the most popular in Stockholm, London, New York, Madrid, Barcelona and Los Angeles. All we have to say is: Congrats Avicii, you have broken one hell of a record.
