Afrojack Uploads 6 New Songs As "Nick Van De Wall"
Earlier this week, Afrojack started a SoundCloud channel under his real name, Nick van de Wall. On the new account, he uploaded six full songs for his fans' listening pleasure. Through a tweet, he clarified his intentions for the new channel.
As someone who was a fan of Afrojack five years ago, I am far from happy with the poppy direction he's gone with his career. However, I do believe he made the right decisions in terms of maximizing his earning potential and increasing his popularity. His new SoundCloud channel gives me a little bit of hope for the future, though.
If you're a fan of the old Afrojack, “Yeah” might be right down your alley. It is reminiscent of the dirty Dutch songs he used to produce that would send crowds into a frenzy. It's great to hear that he's still interested in making songs like this.
The other song that stands out is “Who Got It.” It sounds like three songs smashed into one, which confirms Afrojack's assertion that all of the songs are experimental. At the beginning, there is a big festival-type drop, which transitions into a dirty Dutch segment. From there, we move into some trap. Throughout the track, there are vocal samples from “F**kWithMeYouKnowIGotIt,” courtesy of Jay-Z and Rick Ross. “Who Got It” is musical ADD, and it is pretty fun to listen to.
Afrojack will continue to make his pop songs, but I hope he continues to upload more music to his Nick van de Wall channel. I'll admit that the music isn't the most inspired stuff in the world, and there are certainly many producers who are making more creative tunes. However, this is a step in the right direction for a producer who receives a ton of love internationally. If he starts producing better music, maybe it could have a positive influence on other producers who are coming up in the industry?
