Ultra Festival Security Guard in Critical Condition After Being Trampled

The number one priority at every music festival is the issue of safety, but it is with great distraught that we have to report an Ultra Music Festival security guard has been left in critical condition after being trampled by fans crashing fences surrounding the festival on Friday night. The Miami Herald reports that the 28-year-old private guard, Erica Mack, is in "extremely critical" condition with severe brain hemorrhaging.

"A mob of people came and started rushing the gate and started pushing it," Miami Police Lieutenant Ignatius Carroll told the Miami New Times. "She was doing what she was supposed to do, telling them to stop, when they pushed it down and it fell on top of her. . . They just trampled her."

As of now the Miami police homicide have arrested 22 people, 15 of those on felony charges, and are currently looking for further witnesses. According to reports, police had noted additional fencing was needed two hours before the gates opened to the public, but nothing was done. Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado has told festival promoters they have "acted irresponsibly" is quoted saying,

“I think we should not have Ultra next year here. This incident should never have happened.”

We are very saddened by these series of events and we wish the best for Erica Mack. With music festivals as large as Ultra Music Festival people need to act responsibly and understand these safety regulations are put in place for a reason. We urge Ultra Music Festival fans to be aware of your surroundings and be safe for the duration of the weekend.
