Deadmau5 Surprises With Techno Release On Richie Hawtin's Label
Joel Zimmerman surprised all of his fans today by releasing a song under his new techno alias, testpilot. The track is named "Sunspot (White Space Conflict)," and it was released on Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 Records. As a result, it's only fitting that the release is a minimal techno song, which Hawtin is known for.
According to LessThan3, Zimmerman uploaded a track titled "Sunspot" to the deadmau5 SoundCloud channel two years ago. Although the track was pulled down from SoundCloud, quite a few fans grabbed it and uploaded copies to YouTube.
There has been no official announcement regarding the testpilot release. On the Beatport page for the track, Hawtin provides the following quote in the info section: "Its [sic] been nearly 1.5 years since the last PLUS 8 record, but it seemed fitting that this record in particular, made by a skinny white kid from Canada, became part of the labels collection and history."
In addition to the original track, Pig & Dan have contributed a tech house remix. To purchase "Sunspot (White Space Conflict)" on Beatport, click here.
