According to Fact Mag, Diplo is going to be the host of a new VH1 series titled Soundclash. Questlove, the drummer for The Roots, will be the executive producer of the show. The concept of Soundclash is to bring musicians from various genres on stage together. Once on stage, they will perform each other's songs in addition to collaborating on covers of other tracks.
The first show will feature Lil Wayne, Fall Out Boy, and London Grammar. Ed Sheeran, Sia, and Grouplove will appear on the second episode of Soundclash.
Diplo and Questlove are both known for their open-mindedness when it comes to music. Diplo has produced music for almost every genre under the sun, and Questlove's seemingly endless knowledge of music is on display every weeknight during The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. If you're unfamiliar with Questlove, I highly recommend checking out his weekly series "How Hip-Hop Failed Black America."
On the surface, a television show with Diplo and Questlove might not make sense. However, with all of the information currently at our disposal, Soundclash has the potential to be very successful. Diplo and Questlove are two Philadelphians who simply love music, and this concept looks like it can help unify the music community. Through Soundclash, fans of one particular genre of music might start gaining respect for another genre that they previously disliked. Overall, Soundclash is an intriguing idea, and it will be interesting to see how fans react to the show.
