Puff Daddy Goes One Deeper With Guy Gerber On 'My Heart'

Puff Daddy and Guy Gerber have finally given the public a preview of their upcoming 11 11 album. This week, they premiered "My Heart," which is a proper deep house track. It features processed vocals from Puff Daddy, and it is ideal for any after-hours club.

In the SoundCloud description for the track, Guy Gerber writes, "At once a meeting of two worlds, and yet also a dismissal of those signifiers, 11 11 inverts the recent dialogue between the worlds of hip-hop and electronic music, eschewing simple radio friendly factory fare, for darker, richer, deeper soundscapes. 11 11 is not a project aimed at main-stages and masses, but outliers and after-hours."

Puff Daddy addressed the concerns about him being like Will.I.Am or simply some popular rapper trying to capitalize on dance music's recent popularity. During a panel with Guy Gerber at IMS Engage LA, he said, "I think he's had to be a very loyal partner. He's had to face some of the backlash about me being polarizing and people's preconceived notions. People don't realize I've been in the dance scene since before I was even in the hip-hop scene. I was dancing in the Sound Factory when there was mud on the floor. We were dancing in puddles when Junior Vasquez was DJing. The history of it in growing up in New York during that time, it's just a part of me. That's something that you can't erase, no matter how much money I make or no matter who you think I am. I think he's had to bear the brunt of like, 'Why would would you do this?' It's provocative in a sense as far as that. But as far as my knowledge of the [dance music] space, it's probably more advanced than some of the people who are criticizing."

You can watch the 42-minute panel with Puff Daddy and Guy Gerber below. Pete Tong moderates the session, and I highly recommend you watch the video to get an idea of how much Puff Daddy truly knows about dance music.

Also, this isn't the first time Puff Daddy and Guy Gerber have released a track together. In 2011, they released "Tourist Trap" under the 11 11 name, and it was remixed by a few talented producers. I'm partial to Jamie Jones' fantastic remix of the track.

Since the release of "Tourist Trap," many people have been wondering what happened to the 11 11 project. Well, we've finally heard what they've been up to, and we can't wait to hear what else Guy Gerber and Puff Daddy have created.
