Forget DJ Mag's Top 100 - EDM's premier online music store, Beatport, disclosed almost a decade's worth of data to Mixmag recently. The statistics reveal the top-selling producers in the game, listing Mark Knight, Hardwell, and David Guetta. Keep in mind that Beatport is frequently used by DJs to supplement their sets. Consequently, DJs use the platform much more than a typical dance music fan.
Surprisingly, Avicii's "Levels" is not included as a top-selling track, as this is what essentially launched him to fame. However, he does make his mark as one of the top-selling performers of all time. One big surprise on the top-selling artist list is UMEK. He's a ridiculously talented producer, but he doesn't get much attention from the mainstream. However, it's great to see that the DJ community gives him love.
Deadmau5 takes the cake, though, charting as the top-selling performer of all time. He also produced the top-selling track of all time, a remix of Borufunk & Carbon Community's "Community Community Funk."
Looking at the stats, it becomes apparent that even though deadmau5 talks the (often controversial) talk, he definitely backs it up by walking the walk...all the way to the top of the charts. His top-selling run from 2007 through 2010 is amazing. Check out the rest of Beatport's interesting charts below.
