EDC, Ultra & TomorrowWorld Listed On 'America's Most Buzzed-About Music Festivals' Study
Ticketing website Eventbrite and social media analyst site Mashwork recently published their extensive study on the most talked-about music festivals in the United States; unsurprisingly, EDM dominates the list. Of the 25 most buzzed-about music festivals, eight of them were EDM-centric: Ultra, EDC, TomorrowWorld, HARD Summer, Electric Zoo, Spring Awakening, Mysteryland and Sun City Festival. Many other festivals on the list, including Burning Man, Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Warped Tour, have dedicated EDM stages.
The comprehensive study noted several interesting trends that developed from the recent American obsession with festivals. Music festival conversation increased by 34 percent from last year’s festival season, with 75 percent of conversation coming from people between the ages of 17 and 34. The conversations themselves focused upon each festival’s experience instead of the artists. The strength of live streams from events like Ultra and EDC have helped spur the conversations, with one out every four people participating through remote ways like watching a live stream or following news on Twitter. The study also learned that most conversation occurs before the festivals even begin.
The study derived its information from over 20 million conversations on social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. from August 6, 2013 to August 5, 2014. Eventbrite regularly sells tickets for EDM events, notably events held by Disco Donnie Productions. The study’s findings highlight the significant power EDM holds over the general music festival consciousness and how the trend shapes multi-genre festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. With festival and EDM interest rising by the day, it will be interesting to see how the trends develop over the coming years.
