Each year, one of dance music's most anticipated events is the International DJ Association’s World Championship. Each chapter of the IDA organizes their own national championship, and each national champion competes in IDA’s World Championship to crown the best DJ. DJs can compete in three separate categories, which all highlight individual skills in turntablism. The Technical category showcases the DJ’s overall abilities in two distinct two-minute sets. The Show category, on the other hand, asks the DJ and his team perform a set with an emphasis on creativity and originality. Finally, there is the Scratch category, where each DJ is asked to present a two minute scratch over a preselected IDA beat.
This year’s competition, which was held in Krakow, Poland and co-sponsored by DJcity, pitted thirty of the world’s best turntablists against each other and was judged by some of the most esteemed DJs in the world: DJ Tigerstyle, three time IDA world champion, and DJ Fong Fong, DMC’s online champion. Competitors included Grubson, Steve Nash, and DJ IQ, with Richie Ruftone winning the technical category, VaZee winning the show category, and DJ IQ being crowned champion of the scratching category.
