The synchronicity between music and workout routines is already well established. Spotify has joined forces with Shaun T, the creator of INSANITY, and fitness music guru Dr. Costas Karageorghis, to produce the ultimate sounds and rhythms appropriate for the gym. The streaming service aims to provide an enjoyable workout with the best physical results by merging pulsating soundtracks with a high-impact workout.
Based on an analysis of over 11 million Spotify workout playlists worldwide, exercise expert Dr. Karageorghis created five invigorating workout playlists for 2015: Ultimate Workout, CrossFit, Gymnastics Strength Training, Cardio, and Tabata. The science behind the compilations is designed to take the listener’s strength and potential to the next level.
To maintain a high adrenaline flow, the tracks chosen in the playlists are suited to correspond with the participants’ heart rate. The selection of music is based on stimulating tempos and beats per minute (BPM). According to Dr. Karageorghis, “A range of musical factors such as the lyrical content, tempo or rhythmic feel can affect our physical responses, making certain songs more suited as an accompaniment for physical exercise.”
