New High-Quality Streaming Service Attracts Older Listeners

In the oncoming streaming service war, platforms such as Spotify, Youtube, and Pandora will attempt to one-up each other with unique features and characteristics. One platform made its mark by offering listeners a high-definition listening experience. TIDAL, from the company Aspiro, is a streaming service advertising lossless songs. The lossless format exceeds the common mp3 format in terms of sheer quality, and it seems as if older listeners crave that higher quality. The platform's list of most-listened to artists includes Pink Floyd and Foo Fighters, admittedly older bands that skew towards a different demographic in comparison to those who use other streaming services.

The list nearly lacks any prescence of electronic music, with the notable exception of Royksopp. This trend suggests that EDM fans using streaming services either do not care or are not aware of higher quality options in their music. While people of all ages listen to electronic music, TIDAL's almost complete lack of EDM suggests their older audience do not prioritize listening to electronic music. The list does not offer any conclusive evidence, but the correlation between age and music-listening habits is reinforced by TIDAL's data.
