Simon Cowell’s EDM Competition Show Will Premiere Through Yahoo
Reality-TV powerhouse producer, Simon Cowell has done it once again. The former ‘American Idol’ judge will be producing a show with Yahoo centered on EDM DJs. Rumored to be called ‘Ultimate DJ,’ the first wind of news about this show initially came about when reports of a partnership between Cowell and SFX Entertainment surfaced.
As for the concept, pre-recorded bits will be combined with live scenes for a weekly show after its premiere on Yahoo Screen.
It seems astoundingly clear that this show is targeted specifically toward millennials, who have been the main consumers of the EDM boom and are typically the ones who frequent clubs where EDM is now commonplace. When asked to be a judge on the competition show, Fat Boy Slim replied, "Fuck off." He told Digital Spy that the show was a "terrible idea" and EDM couldn't be scripted because, "it grows organically through drunk people late at night coming up with stupid ideas."
Separate from this endeavor, Cowell’s last reality TV hit was ‘America’s Got Talent,’ which debuted in 2006. Yahoo also has plans for new premium programming that will feature comedy shows, although this particular series is expected to revamp both parties endeavors within the media realm.
