The age of the cable cutters is upon us, with internet-savvy users opting out of cable subscriptions in favor of more streamlined multimedia devices. Video game consoles emerged as formidable platforms, with Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony pairing their home consoles with media partners and other services. However, a lack of a reliable music service remains a key gap among the Xbox One, Wii U, and Playstation 4 consoles. Luckily for music-loving gamers, Sony plans to alleviate this gap with a new service.
Sony announced that the company is partnering with the streaming giant Spotify to launch a new music service called Playstation Music. Slated to launch spring 2015, the service will be accessible through the Playstation 4, the Playstation 3 and Xperia smartphones and tablets. In preparation for Playstation Music, Sony will shut down its current music streaming service, Music Unlimited, on March 29. Both the ad-supported and preminum versions of Spotify will be available in 41 countries.
