Staff Picks: 5 Favorite Songs Of The Week Vol. 13

Every week, a staff member of the EDM.com team collects a list of their favorite tracks from the last week. This week, Lauren Mikkor has selected five listen-worthy tracks, mostly shying away from the larger labels and bringing into the spotlight an array of artists and tunes that will undoubtedly gain notable traction in 2015, both on and off the dancefloor.

Here are Lauren’s 5 favorite tracks of the last week:

Escape - Just Escape ft. Daudi Matsiko (Justin Martin Remix)

Escape's debut EP Just Escape gained a masterful remix from Dirtybird's own Justin Martin. The remix offers a perfect brew of creamy vocals, swooning strings, and melodicism, and the dynamic cocktail of sounds makes it an essential for late-night listening. Justin Martin's spin straddles the bridge between pop and underground dance music, creating an even more delicate and sultry version of the already brilliant tune.

Dear David - I've Been Waiting (Umek & Mike Vale Remix)

Coming in six months after the original mix was released, the wait is finally over. Slovenian heavyweights Umek and Mike Vale have taken on remix duties for Dear David's "I've Been Waiting" giving a deep and dark colouring to the original and allowing listeners to experience the track in a new shade of tech house.

Running Touch - Another Reason

The mysterious new artist Running Touch has been self described as "a seasonal, starry-eyed, sky-gazing progression into experimentalism." The very first experimental release from the anonymous composer comes in the form of deep house, sporting the artist's own husky, grainy vocals, self-written lyrics with a dancefloor-ready melody and bassline. "Another Reason" serves as a contrast to past Running Touch track previews, that tend to waiver between electronica, deep house, electro and acoustic.

Nick Leng - Inside Your Mind (feat. Carmody)

Ambient bliss. This seems like the most fitting phrase to describe the incredible combination of Carmody's soulful, smooth, and sultry vocals with Nick Leng's dreamy melody. Creating a musical atmosphere that's soul-cleansing, you would be foolish to neglect this track. Nick’s floating chord progressions are fused together with drum sequences and grainy percussive elements, taking listeners on a trip to this beautiful imaginary place "inside your mind."

Max Vangeli - You & Me

Max Vangeli has set the 2015 bar high with his first release of the year, "You & Me." Released on Size Records, the San Francisco based DJ-Producer is undoubtedly following closely in the footsteps of the label's head honcho Steve Angello. The track instantly gives off that Tomorrowland mainstage sound, showcasing hard-hitting basslines and Angello-approved melodic synths that are effortlessly merged with beautiful and vocalized lyrics.
