Is Snapchat the future of music videos?

Social media has become one of the strongest mediums of releasing new content for artists and musicians. Primarily, social media platforms provide a quick and easy way to reach a wide demographic. Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more give users the ability to keep up with the rest of the world in real time. One of the newer social media platforms to enter the market is Snapchat. Since the app first surfaced, it has expanded into a multi-dimensional app that nearly anyone with a smartphone uses.

How does this relate to the music industry? In late 2014, we reported that Alesso premiered the music video for his original track “Tear The Roof Up” via Snapchat. Alesso was the first artist to premiere a music video through the platform, and now Madonna is the next to follow in his steps with "Living For Love," a track she wrote with Diplo. Since partnering with the likes of CNN, National Geographic, ESPN, Comedy Central, and more, the app has flourished into a fully functional, news and entertainment app with the launch of Discover.

Directed by Julian Choquart and Camille Hirigoyen, Madonna’s “Living For Love” music video premiered through Snapchat’s Snap Channel. The video was released exclusively through Snapchat for the first 24 hours. Afterwards, it will be released through video sharing platforms such as Youtube. “Living For Love” comes from Madonna’s forthcoming album Rebel Heart, which is scheduled to be released March 10th, 2015 on Interscope Records.
