New 'Coachella Rival' Festival in Proposal Stages
A multi-genre music festival that would take place an hour north of San Francisco, CA on the Sonoma Speedway is currently in the proposal stages. A partnership between the Speedway and Nitro Fidelity Entertainment, the festival would be expected to bring 55,000 attendees to the 1,600-acre speedway on each of its four days, making it comparable in size to The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as well Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.
The festival narrowly passed an initial vote among the Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Commission last week by an 18-16 margin; the votes against stemmed from residents' concerns over excessive noise, traffic and environmental impact.
“One of the things we hope to do is have a strong local presence for emerging talent and local acts from Northern California as part of the music mix.” Explained raceway president and general manager Steve Page. “There would be a lot of opportunities for the business community - wineries, restaurants and other vendors - to participate.”
Nitro Fidelity entertainment is also working towards organizing other festivals around the country, including one in august at the Kentucky Speedway whose lineup will be announced this month.
