The Asian rendition of one of Australia’s most popular music festivals, Future Music Festival, has been cancelled due to a failure in obtaining license for the festival. Future Music Festival Asia was scheduled to be held March 13th and 14th at the Changhi Exhibition Center, but now, ticket buyers will receive full refunds for the tickets from Livescape Singapore, the organizers of the festival.
Livescape had sold 75% of the two-day tickets available for the festival prior to announcing the cancellation of the festival. Organizers had applied for two licenses for Future Music Festival Asia in January and February of 2015, but both applications were rejected by the police, who cited “serious drug concerns” for the festival. This was Future Music Festival Asia’s first year away from Kuala Lumpur, where they had a three-year run that was marred by drug issues, including the cancellation of the third day of the festival last year due to six drug overdoses and a number of hospitalizations.
For now, there has been no announcement of how Future Music Festival plans on moving forward, but it’s looking like the festival’s stay in Asia may be limited. Until we find out anything more, check out the aftermovie from Future Music Festival in Australia from 2014 below!
