The documentary As I AM: The Life and Times of DJ AM will officially premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. A trailer for the film, which was funded by Recording Academy's non-profit arm MusiCares and directed by music documentarian Kevin Kerslake, first debuted at the EDMBiz conference in Las Vegas in 2013.

DJ AM pioneered the mashup genre and became the first "million dollar DJ" in the United States throughout the '90s and early 2000s. After miraculously surviving a plane crash with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker in 2008, he passed away from an apparent crack cocaine overdose in 2009. Kerslake's documentary apparently follows his music career as well as his pitfalls with drug abuse. The film will feature appearances from the likes of DiploSteve Aoki, A-Trak and Pasquale Rotella.

Proceeds of the documentary will go towards MusiCares addiction counseling services. Tribeca Film Festival takes place in Lower Manhattan from April 15-26.
