Staff Picks: 5 Favorite Songs of the Week Vol. 21
Every week, a member of the EDM.com team collects a list of their favorite tracks from the last week. This week, our Staff Picks are curated by Emily Hall, and she has curated a selection of electronic tracks ranging from a trap rework of Zedd's latest release "I Want You To Know" to a vocal-dominated progressive house track from The Jane Doze.
Here are Emily's 5 favorite tracks of the week:
1) All Hands On Deck – Tinashe (Giraffage Remix)
Hot off Tinashe's successful 2014 album release Aquarius, Giraffage reimagined her single “All Hands On Deck” with his signature bouncy flair. In typical style, Charlie Yin (the man operating behind the Giraffage alias) reworks “All Hands On Deck” into a super vibey house track. This remix is without a doubt the work of Yin as it maintains that distinct flip-style Giraffage is iconic for producing. Tinashe’s vocals pair flawlessly with the bouncy house melody produced by Yin, making this the ultimate remix of the original production.
2) I Want You To Know – Zedd feat. Selena Gomez (Milo & Otis Remix)
This highly anticipated collaboration between DJ megastar Zedd and former Disney actress Selena Gomez recently saw its release after months of teasing fans. While the original mix hit the mark, Milo & Otis are changing the game by adding their iconic trap influences to “I Want You To Know.” The pop-infused progressive house track receives a total revamp with a futuristic break beat and a light touch of trap. Milo & Otis’ trap rework of “I Want You To Know” is available for free download via T-Mobile here.
3) OutSide – marshmello
We may not know the true identity behind emerging SoundCloud producer marshmello, but listeners are definitely becoming aware of the anonymous project’s unmistakable melodic future taste. With support from Skrillex, DJ Snake, and others alike, marshmello continues to put out futuristic flips. The latest surfacing of marshmello includes the producer’s new track “OutSide,” which reignites Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s recent release into an upbeat future remix. “OutSide” is available for free download here.
4) Lights Go Down – The Jane Doze feat. CURTAINS
The ladies of The Jane Doze first started their music careers with massive mash-ups of the genre's top tracks. Now, The Jane Doze are coming into their own as they have put out an uplifting original mix. With emphasis on strong vocals and an uplifting progressive house melody, "Lights Go Down" incorporates beautiful vocals from CURTAINS alongside a catchy chord progression. This track signals a future filled with more original releases from Jen Mozenter and Claire Schlissel of The Jane Doze.
5) U Don’t Know – Alison Wonderland (Daktyl Remix)
Alison Wonderland has successfully established herself as a rising female producer in the industry with her 2015 album release Run. The Australian producers track "U Don't Know" is injected with chill trap beats from Mad Decent's Daktyl. Through the Hegemon Collective, Daktyl introduces a new strain of Wonderland with futuristic synths and a ton of vocal chops. With a style similar to Cashmere Cat's, Daktyl's remix of "U Don't Know" re-primes Wonderland's original mix into a well-crafted masterpiece.
