Superstar DJs are often tasked with touring around the world, playing festivals in a different country or continent on a near weekly basis, as well as spending hundreds of days in the studio. There’s no doubt that balancing a megastar DJ career and a family is no easy feat, but Armin Van Buuren has managed to find a way to achieve both.

In addition to playing a grueling touring schedule that includes EDC Las Vegas, TomorrowWorld and a summer residency in Ibiza, van Buuren raises two kids. Trance fans may even remember when Armin announced the birth of his second son during his headlining set at Tomorrowland in 2013.

In an interview with MTV, the Armada Music head honcho opened up about being both a dad and the king of trance and how he has managed to balance caring for his family with work. He explains, “I do have this golden rule: After 5 [o’clock], before 7 [o’clock], I don’t pick up my phone. I want to be there for my kids and my family. This is a golden rule because I want to feed them, I want to bathe them, I want to cuddle them, I want to put them to bed. It’s one of the most important times of the day.”

While most of Armin’s success as an artist is an ode to his hard work and dedication to his craft, the trance icon does acknowledge the work that his team puts in, which allows him to go home and spend time with his family.
