Tragedy Strikes Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas
As fun as music festivals can be for EDM fans, the festival environment comes with potential dangers. Heat and lack of available water already present health risks, and an abundance of drugs and alcohol can only worsen circumstances.
EDC Las Vegas takes place during one of the hottest months of the year, and its massive attendance numbers equates to a need for greater safety measures. This year, EDC Vegas got struck with a significant blow: a 24-year-old man died on Saturday of the event.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports the man died on Saturday during the festival, with cause of death to be determined by coroner's officials. A toxicology screening is being performed as well, with results to be released within four to eight weeks.
The identity of the man has also yet to be determined. The report comes with news that there were 135,000 attendees at EDC Vegas on Saturday. EDC organizer Insomniac Events released the following statement on the fatality:
"We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the man who passed away. The health and safety of our fans is Insomniac's first priority and we take every measure to create a safe environment. While the cause of this tragedy will take some time to determine, we ask that you keep his loves ones in your thoughts and prayers. Tonight and every night, we ask all of our fans to take care of themselves and one another."
