Diplo Reveals In Interview That Rihanna Turned Down 'Lean On'
Diplo is up to his usual antics of being blunt about his colleagues in the music industry, boasting that his recent international hit single “Lean On,” produced under the Major Lazer moniker and featuring DJ Snake and Danish vocalist MØ, is more successful than anything Rihanna has put out recently.
“I was in the studio with Rihanna two weeks ago, still playing the game. I was trying to convince her why she should do so-and-so, and thinking, ‘Lean On is bigger than any of her songs around the world right now. Why am I even sitting here trying to negotiate?’”
The producer revealed that the quip hits a little closer to home than some might have anticipated. The Fader published a list of 14 songs written for Rihanna that other people recorded.
“We also had ‘lean on’ for riri but was turned down," Diplo said.
It wouldn’t be the first time in the music industry that an artist turned down a song that would later become a hit. So the question remains: Is Rihanna kicking herself now considering the song's massive success? “Lean On” has so far reached the 17 position on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as finding its way into the top 10 of the iTunes sales chart.
