Avicii & Deadmau5 Call Out Famous Alt-Rocker For Dissing EDM [VIDEO]
During a series of interviews following Scotland's T in the Park, Noel Gallagher, the frontman for the High Flying Birds, criticized Avicii and other DJs headlining the festival. Gallagher said, "I don't know anything about Avicii. I don't wish to know anything about Avicii. It sounds like an artist from the Renaissance period."
Gallagher, formerly the lead guitarist of the iconic 90s rock band Oasis, said rather bluntly in the video interview, "I don't know anything about Avicii. I don't wish to know anything about Avicii. It sounds like an artist from the Renaissance period."
The rocker even went on to say of Avicii's scheduled performance, "Don't worry, I can save [the festival] after that."
Later, Gallagher was also quoted saying EDM-heavy lineups are "disturbing" and a bad sign for the future of the festival circuit.
"...if a dude in a hat and a pair of fake DJ decks pressing play on a CD player is what it's all about. That's quite a bleak future."
Yesterday, Avicii responded to Noel Gallagher's comments with the following hilarious South Park clip on Instagram. The Swedish DJ posted a hefty letter as the caption.
"What is really 'sad' is hearing an old time musician like yourself confessing so bluntly and openly to not having an open mind to new music by dissing shit you haven't even heard."
His letter was cleverly signed from "Dude in a hat." Touché Avicii.
EDM's most infamous troll Joel Zimmerman, better known by his fans as Deadmau5, had to weigh in too, of course. The Canadian producer cooked up a short video that he reposted a few days ago in response to Gallagher.
Gallagher opened one of his interviews by saying, "Hello, this is deadmau5 without the stupid fucking hat," so mau5 responded "Well I'm Noel Gallagher, without the stupid accent."
