Kaskade made a triumphant return to his hometown of Chicago this weekend for his performance at this year's Lollapalooza festival. In an interview with Billboard, the grammy-nominated EDM producer explained his excitement over returning home as a headlining performer, mentioning some of his special guests that were in the audience.
"It's kind of like the home field advantage, my mom's here, people from high school, I think my choir teacher from high school is here. All these people from my past get to come out and see the show and that's always amazing."
Kaskade, aka Ryan Raddon, talked about the massive success he's incurred over the years since his humble beginnings as a fledgling DJ, expressing his appreciation and gratitude for the way dance music continues to evolve.
"It's crazy, I mean the first year I played here, I'm not making this up or trying to spin a story here, I actually played on a card table. That was pretty standard back then, playing on vinyl on a card table. Compare that to today, I mean, my numbers will rival Paul McCartney and The Weeknd. Dance music has gone from virtually unknown backroom, small night clubs to the mainstage. It's a good time for dance music."
He also talked about his latest single, "Disarm You" which was featured in his live set at Lollapalooza.
"For me, this is kind of like another layer in my story. "Disarm You" is something that Ilsey, who's featured on the song, wrote and sang, performed. Emotionally, it's a very charged song lyrically. My job there was to come up with something that would work musically to enhance that and make it work all together."
