Major Festival Forced To Evacuate Due To Extreme Weather [VIDEO]
Lollapalooza faced a major hiccup in their festivities today as an incoming storm headed for Chicago caused the event's organizers to shut down the music temporarily and evacuate the grounds at Grant Park.
WGN captured footage as droves of festival-goers evacuated Lollapalooza to take shelter at designated emergency sites nearby.
The festival organizers announced via social media that the gates would re-open at 3:30 pm, and that the music would start up again at 4:00pm. As of yet, an updated schedule of events has yet to be released, leaving fans to wonder how the event will proceed and whether or not set times will be cut short or made up at a later point.
Sandee Fenton, director of publicity for Lollapalooza's organizing company, released a statement regarding their regret over the evacuation, but asserting that it was a necessary move in the interest of public safety for fans and artists alike.
“Our first priority is always the safety of our fans, staff and artists. We regret having to suspend any show, but safety always comes first.”
