BBC Explains The Phenomenon Of Skin Orgasms In New Video
BBC Future dropped a new infographic on the musical phenomenon dubbed "Skin Orgasms," when music inspires powerful physical reactions such as goose bumps or that spine-tingling sensation.
The video explains that skin orgasms are the result of sudden changes in harmony, dynamic leaps and dissonant notes called appoggiatura. Because these musical elements confound our expectations, they create reactions in listeners that are similar to sensations experienced during sex such as racing heart and flushing of the face. The video also proposes that this may be why certain songs are considered addictive by listeners.
