Coachella Reportedly Expanding With New Festival In New Location
AEG's Coachella may be adding a new edition to their popular festival brand next year. Tentatively dubbed Panorama, the proposed addition to Coachella's outfit could be headed to New York, around the same time that 2016's Governor's Ball would be kicking off. Panorama would be AEG's latest attempt at locking in the East Coast festival market, and it is rumored that headliners and supporting acts have already been contacted to play the event.
But not everyone is enthralled by the possibility of a New York edition to the popular festival. Tom Russell of Founders Entertainment, the organizing company that puts on Governor's Ball each year, fears that Coachella could have a negative impact on the independent three day event.
“The timing of this corporate-run festival would threaten our ability as a small business to continue putting on the kind of event that has showcased the best artists, created hundreds of local jobs and put millions of dollars back into the city’s economy.”
This year's Coachella boasted a whopping number of tickets sold, with nearly 200,000 festival goers in attendance, a figure that the independently organized Governor's Ball would struggle to compete with.
Relive Kaskade's Coachella set, which marked a particularly important moment in EDM. Kaskade was the only electronic artist slated for the 2015 mainstage and went on to bring out two of the largest crowds in the festival's history.
