Thievery Corporation Talks Staying Fresh After 20 Years [EDM.COM INTERVIEW]
EDM.com contributor Megan Venzin had a chance to sit down with Rob Garza of the legendary electronic music group Thievery Corporation at the 4th annual Thrival Music Festival in Pittsburgh, PA.
Founded by a non-profit organization Thrill Mill, that serves early-stage entrepreneurs, Thrival is a uniquely immersive event featuring a week of innovation-focused programming with thought leaders and cutting-edge technology that culminates into a weekend of amazing music from emerging talent, iconic names and top-tier headliners.
In its biggest and most exciting iteration yet, the 2016 Thrival brought artists Thievery Corporation, The Chainsmokers, CHVRCHES, Hudson Mohawke, Ty Dollar $, Daya, Lettuce, Metric, Sir The Baptist and more.
"We started off just doing it as a hobby, we never really expected to have a music career," Garza said. "So to be here 20 years later, I think, is really exciting."
In this special EDM.com video interview, Megan Venzin chats with Thievery Corporation's Rob Garza about how it feels to celebrate their 20th anniversary of performing, what influences their sound and what electronic music fans can expect from their new album!
"When we started the internet wasn't huge or anything like that," Garza said. "...Back at that time we were just influenced by our record collections."
