Eric Prydz Talks Earliest Inspirations, EPIC 5.0 & More with Pasquale Rotella [LISTEN]

Last Friday on a special Halloween-themed episode of Night Owl Radio, Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella invited none other than Eric Prydz as his featured guest. Part of the Insomniac.com's "Up All Night" series, the episode was broadcasted live from Amsterdam during ADE and included an exclusive mix from cardiac pushing duo Firebeatz.

Pasquale premiered a previously-recorded, up-close-and-personal interview with Eric Prydz at the legend's own home.

After sharing excitement for his upcoming performance at Escape: Psycho Circus, Pasquale touched on Prydz's multi-faceted personality and how it plays into sounds and aliases as well as the fact that Prydz always has new material in every live set.

"I have my own story to tell and I don't really look at what other people do or try to follow trends or anything like that," Prydz said. "Sometimes maybe there's a certain sound that's super popular and people are into and for some reason I try to stay away from that."

Prydz went on to share that Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode were in fact his earliest inspirations at the ripe age of 8 or 9. He recalls being blown away by hearing electronic instruments, and how it was so different from the disco he was used to hearing his mother play.

While electronic music fans are attending more and more festivals these days, they are often seeking out certain subgenres and brands. Prydz emphasized the importance of approaching electronic music with an open mind.

"For me it's about the music, it's not about branding."

In another interview highlight, Prydz revealed that he's currently working on the next Epic (Eric Prydz In Concert), and that he's moved away from lights and confetti in favor of a more technology-driven live production.

"We are currently working crazy on Epic 5.0. I can't give that much more information away. We're taking it super serious now."

Of course, it wouldn't be a Prydz interview without mention of new music, so he played an unreleased song dubbed "Nopus" by his fans. The tune was first premiered at the end of his 2016 EDC set.

Accidentally jumping at Steve Aoki. Climbing a railing to interview Adventure Club. Journeying to Lollapalooza and Electric Daisy Carnival... These are the experiences I'd like to share.
