The Weeknd & Daft Punk Release 2nd Single "I Feel It Coming" [LISTEN]
Ahead of The Weeknd's upcoming third studio album Starboy, the Canadian singer has revealed a new single from the upcoming LP, a second collaboration with famed French electronic duo Daft Punk.
The lead single from the album, "Starboy" featuring Daft Punk, was an instant hit and soared to #1 on more than a dozen charts worldwide after its release on September 22, 2016.
The Weeknd, otherwise known as Abél Tesfaye, had the music world on standby after revealing that Daft Punk was, in fact, featured on a second track on the album during an in-depth interview with The Wall Street Journal. Just reading the way Tesfaye described "the remarkably spontaneous sessions [that] yielded two songs on the album" can give you chills.
"Their studio is like a spaceship; there's a lot of gear. But the way they make music, the way they explain it, is very cinematic. It's like they're reading a page out of a novel – 'We want to make sure that at the end, it feels like the sun's coming up, and maybe there's a car chase.' They can get technical, but it was interesting how they visualize making music."
"I Feel It Coming" featuring Daft Punk, was released November 17, 2016 along with another single entitled "Party Monster." These new tunes mark the third and fourth singles from the album, following the second single "False Alarm."
The second collaboration with Daft Punk is a sultry dance ballad in which The Weeknd channels Michael Jackson as he croons to a hypothetical lover saying, "You've been scared of love and what it did to you, You don't have to run, I know what you've been through." The Daft Punk joins in on the chorus with their signature robotic autotune as they sing, "I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe."
"Party Monster," by contrast, is characterized by dark desperation with heavy bass and an atmosphere of hazy affects and echoes.
