RL Grime, What So Not & Skrillex Unleash Collab "Waiting"
The ultimate bass collab that has been years in the making has finally arrived. RL Grime, What So Not and Skrillex unleashed their collaborative track "Waiting."
Fans have been waiting for this release since it was first teased in live sets a couple of years ago. In fact, that's exactly where the name derives from.
"Within a few hours [of playing the song live], it would pop up on YouTube with comments that said, 'Waiting,' 'waiting,' 'still waiting,'" Chris "Emoh" Emerson told NPR laughing. "So we named it 'Waiting.'"
The track was written the same day in 2013 as RL Grime and What So Not's 2014 hit festival trap anthem "Tell Me," which was also named after fans perpetually asking for an ID online, according to an NPR interview. "Waiting," however, was put on the back burner until the three producers reconvened in Los Angeles last month to finally finish the tune.
"I think it's kind of cool that both tracks were born from that same session," Henry Steinway aka RL Grime told NPR. "It's had a few different lives over the years and the timing feels right."
A lot has changed in three years - What So Not went from a duo with Flume to a solo project - but the original vision for the song remained: "Melodic and happy before it drops into this thing that's, you know, the opposite," RL Grime said.
Emoh said the new song, just like "Tell Me," is a big thank you to fans for their support (and patience).
