Be a Fan, Not a Fan Girl - Zero to Sixty [EDM.COM VIDEO]
The phrase "fan girl" comes with "heavy connotation," and it's understandable. But as EDM.com Senior Editor Devin Culham says, if you let the overwhelming emotions get in the way, you can taint what might otherwise be an amazing memory of meeting your idol that you cherish forever.
In a new episode of Zero to Sixty, Devin reminds us how to be in the moment when you finally get a chance to meet your favorite artist in person.
One of the biggest takeaways here is remembering that these artists are just people like you and me. Put yourself in their shoes. Would you want to be constantly placed on a pedestal, objectified for a trophy selfie or be pummeled with tabloid-y questions?
What if, instead, you treated the artist like a new friend? Touring is exhausting and a small interaction with a fan that feels genuine, casual or thoughtful (but not too heavy) could potentially make an artist's entire night.
By the way, this doesn't mean you shouldn't or can't gush and fangirl about that artist's show or music before and after with your friends and other fans. Just while you have the chance to actually meet your favorite artist... "play it cool," as Devin says.
I'm a storyteller at heart, and music makes my world go round.
