Will Pre-Ordered Music Be the Next Big Step For Streaming Services?
Spotify is changing the way that we think about pre-ordered music.
Introducing a new 'Pre Save' option, Spotify is teaming up with Kobalt Music Recordings to bring you music the moment its released. Launching Pre-Save with singer-songwriter Laura Marling's new album Semper Femina, Kobalt Music Recordings is introducing new technology to the traditional pre-order concept.
Paul Hitchman of Kobalt Music Recordings had this to say about the new marketing tool:
“This is one of a series of innovative marketing tools that we will be rolling out over the coming months for our Kobalt and AWAL clients. Our services are powered by technology that enables artists to take control of their careers and maximise the opportunities presented by global digital platforms like Spotify.”
Will other labels and streaming services implement their own 'pre-save'? As subscription streaming services make up a larger percentage of the music consumption pie chart, pre-save options may become a new marketing tool for helping artists connect with fans.
