Martin Garrix Talks New Music, Debut Album & Special Concert for the Deaf [VIDEO]
EDM.com's own Shane O'Neil caught up with Martin Garrix yesterday at the Miami Music Lounge, presented by 7UP and Crave. The young Dutch DJ told us about the new music that fans can look forward to during his closing set tonight on the Ultra mainstage as well as a special concert for the deaf community.
As Crave wrote, Martin and 7UP created an immersive music experience for deaf people, working with experiential artists to create a unique music venue - one specifically tailored to an audience who cannot experience music in the way most of us consider essential to our existence.
"It was a crazy trip because you get to meet all of these people who have such inspirational stories... when everything came into place and when the setup was done and we saw it with our own eyes and we saw how happy they were... to be able to do something like that with 7UP was very special. I'm very excited to show it to the world... their smiles afterwards changed me... it meant so much to me."
During the interview, Martin spoke about his new single "Now That I've Found You (feat. John & Michel)," the first release on his newly-launched label imprint STMPD RCRDS. The decision to go independent and leave Spinnin' Records was one of the most difficult challenges Martin has faced as an artist, he said, but it was also one of the best decisions. The 19-year-old went on to share his excitement for his debut album, which he plans to release this year.
"I have so much freedom. I can do whatever I want... I've been making so much weird stuff in the last few months, and I'm going to play a lot of new weird stuff tomorrow at Ultra, which I know for sure is going to surprise people.
I've been working on a lot of different type of stuff... I'm mostly excited to show a new side of Martin Garrix, with the album coming, with the label just released, with all the new music coming out very soon, with the new show I'm going to premiere tomorrow with new lights, new visuals."
Oh... did we mention Garrix said he'll be bringing out some special guests for his closing set at Ultra tonight? Stay tuned, and we'll keep you posted!
