Spring Awakening Festival Is Without A Venue, Less Than 2 Months Away
Apparently Spring Awakening Festival in Chicago, Il has lost its venue - again.
According to Time Out Chicgao, the 2016 iteration of Spring Awakening was scheduled to take place at Jackson Park, after having to change from it's previous location at Soldier Field. The move from Soldier Field was due to a conflict with the Copa América Centenario international soccer tournament, which runs through most of June. The move to Jackson Park was at first celebrated by promoter React Presents, as it would allow for more stages and carnival rides due to the increased size of the new location.
However, now it seems that Spring Awakening will not be happening in Jackson Park either, according to a Parks District spokesperson who spoke with Chicago magazine. Neighborhood groups had opposed the festival moving to Jackson Park, and Alderman Leslie Hairston had failed to approve the move.
With the festival scheduled to take place in less than two months and the location still in question, fans are rightly concerned. React Presents has not commented on the move thus far, nor addressed whether those who purchased tickets before the venue cancellation will have the option to have their tickets refunded. The lineup has yet to be announced, though some of the acts including Skrillex were leaked in legal documents as part of SFX's bankruptcy proceedings.
