Coachella to Throw 'Berniechella' Music Fest in Support of Bernie Sanders
Supporters of democratic candidate Bernie Sanders in the city of Coachella, California are throwing a music festival for the Vermont Sen. that they have dubbed "Berniechella."
The free block party/rally, which is taking place right before the second weekend of Coachella Music and Arts Festival in nearby Indio, will feature a lineup of music performances from Shepard Farley and Zoe Kravitz, Moses Summey, Ozomatli, Alex Ebert and Venus and the Moon. There will also be art exhibitions, food trucks and beer gardens.
The party for the presidential candidate is expected to draw anywhere from 1,500 to 10,000. Event organizer Tizoc DeAztlan is hoping the presidential candidate will make an appearance to support the festival in his honor, according to The Desert Sun.
"This is the first time since I’ve been here on this dais and the first time in the Coachella Valley that the campaign of a presidential candidate is willing to do an event,” Mayor Steven Hernandez told The Desert Sun. “I think it’s good for us. It’s good for democracy and it’s good for the city.”
Mayor Hernandez also welcomes such events believing they benefit the local economy. Berniechella will take place from 5pm to midnight on Thursday April 21 and Friday April 22 from on Grapefruit Boulevard and Vine Street in Old Town Coachella.
