It is with deep sorrow that we report the death of the artist, superstar and icon known as Prince. TMZ broke the news that Prince's body was discovered early Thursday morning, April 21st, at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. The global star's publicist has since confirmed the tragic news to AP.

On April 15th, it was reported that Prince, full name Prince Rogers Nelson, was hospitalized in Moline, IL after his private jet was forced to make an emergency landing. His publicist told TMZ that it was a severe case of the flu, and Prince performed a concert the next day. But before this, two of his shows were canceled due to health concerns.

Officials have yet to make a statement on the initial cause of death.

Prince's legacy began with the international success of his breakthrough album 1999, which was released in 1982 and was followed by critically acclaimed albums Purple Rain and Sign O' the Times. He sold 100 million records and earned seven Grammys and an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985. Prince's 2007 Super Bowl performance is widely regarded as one of the greatest live performances of all time.

A legend has been lost. Prince changed music forever, and the world will never be the same.
