On Thursday, April 21, 2016, the world lost a true legend and one of the greatest innovators and iconoclasts in music history. As the world mourned the passing of Prince, Coachella embarked on the second weekend of its 2016 iteration.

Everyone from Gallant and Sufjan Stevens to LCD Soundsystem to Joey Bada$$ took time out of their Coachella set to honor the Purple One. LCD Soundsystem performed "Controversy," a song significant to the development of house and electronic music in general, while Gallant and Sufjan took on the great honor of singing "Purple Rain" in an emotional tribute.

One of the great tributes came from dance music's own Major Lazer, who was joined by R&B /pop superstar and Martin Garrix collaborator Usher. Towards the end of Major Lazer's set, Usher surprised attendees with a performance of Prince's "1999" and "I Would Die 4 U" and ended with a heartfelt dedication.

Diplo and Skrillex also finished their Jack Ü set with Prince music and Ellie Goulding performed a stunning rendition of Prince's "When Doves Cry."

Needless to say... Coachella round two joined the world in bleeding purple this past weekend, and we were quickly reminded... Prince lives on.
