One of the Most Highly Anticipated Albums of the Year is Finally Here [LISTEN]
It's finally here. After much anticipation and a few delays, Kygo's debut album Cloud Nine dropped today in the U.S. Having already received rave reviews including a stellar write-up from Rolling Stone, the album debuted today at #1 on iTunes in 18 countries, the top 10 in 50 countries and #2 in the UK and Germany.
Epically beautiful, emotive and uplifting, Cloud Nine has quickly claimed the throne of best album of 2016 so far and could very well hold it down here for the rest of the year.
The album starts with the soft and warm "Intro" featuring minimal production that breaks into a goosebump raising piano solo before moving into the smash hit with Parson James "Stole the Show," one of the biggest odes to Kyrre's tropical house beginnings. Next we have "Fiction" featuring English singer-songwriter Tom Odell; a more indie-tinged tune thanks to Odell's imperfectly perfect vocal work characterized by a Wayne Coyne-like tone.
"Raging" featuring Irish rock band Kodaline is a powerful pop ballad with signature Kygo melodies that precedes the most well known song on the album, the massively successful "Firestone" with Conrad Sewell, which reigns as Kyrre's career-launching breakthrough single and one of the most tropical house-leaning tunes.
Inspired by the birth of John Legend's daughter, "Happy Birthday" is an absolute album highlight, utterly lighthearted and joyful. Other album highlights include "I'm In Love" with James Vincent McMorrow as well as "Fragile" with Labrinth and "For What It's Worth" with Angus Stone and Julia Stone, all of which stray the farthest from the Kygo sounds we've come to know and love but with incredible success and finesse.
From start to finish, it's a remarkable, feel-good album that breaks tropical house and dance music boundaries to stand as a timeless work of art... Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll's greatest masterpiece. Nearly every song has something special and yet standouts as a lead single that could command radio airwaves for the foreseeable future. Kygo's manager Myles Shear, who was also the Executive Producer of the album, shared the following celebratory statement to his socials:
"Today is one of the biggest milestones of our career. Kygo's debut album is officially out! So proud of him as this is a true testament of his artistry. He is the real deal and here to stay for the long run. We have been working on this for over 2 years now and we've wanted share it so badly!"
