Krewella’s Highly Anticipated EP Shows Off New Direction [LISTEN]
One of EDM's favorite female duos Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf aka Krewella dropped their new EP Ammunition today. Three long years in the making, this new body of work reveals a new direction and is spilling with very personal lyrics on empowerment, vulnerabilities and complex relationships.
The highly-anticipated EP spans six tracks and is evidence of a significant transition since their 2013 studio album Get Wet. Unlike the big, dubstep sounds of their debut album, their sophomore effort seeks to bridge the gaps between rock, rave and pop while building on and emphasizing their strengths when it comes to writing and delivering emotive vocals.
The lead single "Beggars" combines their heavy bass roots with pop punk vocals while "Broken Records" and "Marching On" are a refreshing departure from anything we've heard from the sisters with their catchy electro-pop hooks and dark undertones. The EP closes with the bright "Can't Forget You," the most alt-rock offering on the EP.
Overall, this release seems to be less in-your-face than what we've come to expect from Krewella in the past and more focused on accessibility and artistry in a more pop-inspired, yet still dynamic electronic package.
The past 12 months have proven to be a roller coaster for Krewella, from the not-so-pretty breakup with producer Rain Man and subsequent lawsuit to misogynistic criticisms and accusations testing their authenticity and credibility. It's inspiring to see these two forge ahead with a strong release.

We have been talking about our next project for years. Before we even released Get Wet in September 2013, we were already working on new music. I know it’s taken us nearly 3 years to do it but it’s finally here — no more talking about it. Time to press play. Krew, we are proud and honored to present you the Ammunition EP. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it ❤
