Co-founder and former CEO of Beatport from 2002-2010, Jonas Tempel, penned an open letter to the SFX-owned music streaming and digital retail site in response to recent news.
Unable to attract a buyer for the site, SFX was forced to suspend the auction on May 10th. Beatport then announced the shut down of everything except the download store, which meant the end of its mobile app, music streaming and video platforms, news section and events vertical, effective May 13th.
Coming from a place of deep love and concern for the brand, its mission and the dance music DJs, producers and fans it served so well for so long, Tempel outlined his thoughts on how - if Beatport was open and willing - the site could still rise from the ashes.
