Dance Music Fest Cancels Entire Event After Avicii Couldn't Confirm
The first ever Swedish Edition of the Flying Dutch Festival, which was scheduled to take place in three cities in the Netherlands on July 30th, has officially been canceled due to doubt over Avicii's appearance.
The Second Annual Flying Dutch Festival went off without a hitch earlier this month, but the upcoming event was going to be the first Swedish Journey, billed exclusively with Swedish dance music artists.
The organizers of The Flying Dutch Swedish Journey did not attempt to conceal the reasoning behind the cancelation. They issued a public statement simply explaining that Avicii's management could not confirm the previously scheduled appearance, and the event coordinators felt the need to cancel it entirely, as a result.
"The dance event is cancelled because of continued uncertainty about Avicii's presence at the event."
Other Swedish artists that were billed to play the event included Alesso, Steve Angello, John Dahlbäck and Icona Pop.
"Our request to Avicii and his management to provide a guarantee of his attendance at our event went to no avail. This uncertainty is unacceptable. We can't do that to our audience." - Organizer John Ewbank
While Avicii did not technically cancel his appearance, the concern from the event coordinators may have been due to Avicii's recent announcement that he'd be retiring from the road.
The Flying Dutch expressed their apologies to disappointed fans as well as confirmed that they will be issuing full refunds to ticket-holders.
